Brothers!

This month I thought I would share with you a recent devotional on the Holy Spirit that has inspired me.

4 Ways to be Led by the Holy Spirit

When someone mentions the Holy Spirit, or as my KJV brothers like to call Him the Holy Ghost, what are your feelings? When I talk with believers about the Holy Spirit people get all weird on me. They like to talk about the Father and His unconditional love, try to ignore His wrath. They LOVE to talk about Jesus, the cross, and the freedom they have found because of His resurrection. When it comes to the Holy Spirit, it is as if we are talking about that one crazy uncle you tolerate at Christmas for a few short hours. Some see the Holy Spirit as a mystical power abused by the Charismatics, and some as a Power given to the apostles to begin the New Testament church but no longer needed today. The problem with those two common beliefs is what Jesus said about the Holy Spirit and how He interacted with the Holy Spirit.

John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, 'The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.'

Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as a person, a guide, one who talks, bringing glory to Christ. Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as a person. In fact, a talking person who will lead you into ALL TRUTH. How much truth will you be given apart from the Holy Spirit? NONE, ZERO, ZILCH!!! "He will Guide..., He will not Speak on His own..., He will tell you... He will bring me... The Spirit will tell you..." In these three verses spoken by Jesus, it is abundantly clear the Holy Spirit is THE PERSON that we have relationship with while we are alive here on earth. So how is your relationship with the Holy Spirit?

4 Ways to be Led by the Holy Spirit

1. Time with the Lord.

When I pray, I ask the Holy Spirit to lead me in my prayer. When I read the scriptures, I ask the Holy Spirit to lead me into wisdom and revelation. When I seek the Lord, I ask the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus to me. This revolutionized my time with the Lord. I have learned how to communicate with Holy Spirit.

2. Lead through my day

I ask the Lord every day for three people to be a blessing to. When going to lunch I ask the Holy Spirit which restaurant He would have me go. (Amazing how those two things go together.)

3. How to serve my family

I ask the Holy Spirit how to better love my wife and children. I desire to be a better husband and father, and I am incapable of those apart from the Holy Spirit.

4. Who should speak into my life

Whenever I find myself in a big decision point, I ask the Holy Spirit who can help lead me into wisdom. We are not called to do this life alone!

How is your relationship with the Holy Spirit?

Recklessly, obsessively following Jesus.

The York River District UMMen will have our "Night at the Ballgame" on Monday, July 21th. at War Memorial Stadium with the Peninsula Pilots. This opportunity is open to all Va. UMMen fellowships.

This is an opportunity to bring our brothers and sisters together in fellowship with a common element, "Good Old Fashion Fun".   Tickets can be sold to family and friends,  neighbors and even the kids down the street. They can make a great gift and a wonderful way to say "I was thinking about you" .  This is our night to show the community that we want them to be a part of our lives and we want to be a part of theirs.

If any fellowships outside the York River District are interested, please contact Jim Chaffin (President YRDUMMen) by email at jimchaffinumm@gmail.com or by phone at (757)224-3551.
